Top Five Gifts for "Three-nager" | Mom So Hard, other

6/27/2019

I, too bad, we are definitely getting the sassy, "three-nager" stage right now.
guess since we never had the terrible two's stage

Lord, because she is so much like me, we butt heads a good bit through the day. She's bossy (to me and her daddy), she wants her hair done, she thinks she needs makeup on to go to dance class, she wants to get into my jewelry. If it is sassy and girly, she wants in on it! When not given the chance to take in on those activities, she throws a fit. A fit.

I was planning on purchasing, for her birthday, her very own, tablet. I was going to do a Kindle by Amazon. Its a great price, has some great features, like parental controls, and its not huge. After an incident earlier this week, we have decided that is not an appropriate gift for her at this time. I'll tell you about that later!

So, what is a good gift for a three year old? A "three-nager", if you will!

Family, friends, this is in no way meant to be a shopping list for BB, just a list of things I think would make great gifts for any three year old!

Y'all, my oldest, my "BB", my "momma's girl", is turning three next week. Thankfully, we did not have much of the terrible two's stuff, but I am paying for it now. I mean full on.

B is a lot like me, she is quiet and laid back (I try to be!), until she gets comfortable around you, then she will talk your ears off, sing "Elsa" at the top of her lungs in a nice restaurant, and tell you all about her "daddy terds". And, yes, that is a thing.

The "Three-nager's" Gift Guide

1. Dress up Clothes

Picture
"Three-nagers", generally, love all the sassy things. Even when they don't, they still love to play dress up, and pretend that they are another person, like their favorite character on TV or a movie. My youngest, the more "tomboy" child, even loves to play dress up.

BB is all about girly and Princesses. Think 'Fancy Nancy', "Elsa", "Moana", "Rapunzel"... well, you get the picture.

2. STICKERS

As much as I hate to say this, stickers. Another thing that B is just like her momma in, we both love stickers. There is a difference in our usage though. I use them in scrapbooking, Bible journaling, and in my planner. And, I am so stingy with them. I won't use the one I want to use, because, once you use it, you can't use it again (I am working on this problem, okay? Don't judge!). Where I am greedy with my stickers, BB is super generous with hers. She decorated my office chair one day while I was at work, I can only guess her daddy encouraged her, because, surely, he wouldn't have just let her decorate my computer chair with a packet of my Bible journal stickers!! Surely, not.

For real, I found that stickers are a great way for her to work on placing things where they go, colors, numbers, and letters. They can be used for all types of education. And to my "three-nager", they are the epitome of F U N.

Both my girls love these, and there is a ton in the package. I will set up an activity for them, like put some large circles on a paper, with coordinating markers, and they have to place the matching stickers in the circle, and so much more!

3. Books

Did you really think that we could get through this list without putting books on it? If you did, you don't know us well enough, yet! Thankfully, both of my girls, L O V E books, they have a great affinity, just like me, for collecting books. When we go to any store, we have to go look at the books. Growing up, my parents allowed books to be the exception to many rules, like bedtime. They would let me stay up past my bedtime, as long as I was reading. They had a rule to not buy me something every time we went to the store. Unless it was a book.

I fully plan to have those exceptions when it comes to the girls. I hope their love for reading promotes strong study skills, and that they will want to be great students, and excel academically. Every parent's dreams, right?

Anyways, I have linked some books we have, and some that are on my "purchase list" for the girls!

4. A Makeup Set

I can hear B's words now, "Momma. my own makeup? Oh, thank you so much, momma!". Yes, she does talk like that. Manners are something we work on with them both, but honestly, I think Fancy Nancy's extra-ness, has rubbed off on her. Not mad, though.

I found a set made by PixieCrush that looks and feels just like the real deal, but no mess! It was a created by a father, who was inspired by his own daughter and wife, after hearing how upset his daughter would be for not getting to put on makeup, and for seeing how much of a mess it created when she was allowed to use it! Sweet dada!

Also, it comes with its own makeup bag!

5. A bike

This is a gift that I think BB is ready for, but my husband and I, are not completely on the same page. She shows a ton of interest in bikes when she sees them at the store. When we put her on one, she tries so hard to get going on it. I think he forgets that she is only three, and she is going to need some guiding and help on learning how to make the peddles move.

We both think bikes are great ideas, as we want to instill in the girls the love for being outside, bieng active, and using their imagination. Call us old school parents, and I will take that as a compliment!

Since we try to not do things unless were on the same page as each other, we will hold off on this, but were planning for Christmas or Easter. This is still a great idea for a three year old, especially if the three year old in question is a tad bit more coordinated than my BB!

BONUS IDEA: Money to Save

No, a three year old is not going to think this is a great gift, at least not now. They will when they turn sixteen or eighteen and are looking for a car or wanting to put money into their school fund.

As a parent, I totally approve this gift, for a couple of reasons.
  1. The Lesson of Saving. We're trying to teach the girls to save, early. Really early. To be honest, there are times where I need to tithe, and I just transfer equal amounts of my tithe into their accounts. Every Friday afternoon when my husband gets home from work, he empties out his pockets of all the change he has accumulated during the week, and he counts it out, penny by penny, and gets it even, and helps each one of them put the change into their piggy banks. One of my favorite things to watch him "daddy" with.
  2. They honestly, don't need anything. I don't just say that because I see daily, strewn out all over my house and vehicles how many toys they have, I say this because, they are so blessed between us, their grandparents, their great-grandparents, and great aunt and uncles, that they really don't want or need for anything. I am blessed as much as they are for this.
Their piggy banks are similar to this, not exact. In true southern, crafty mom fashion, I added their monograms, so that we knew which one was which. That's not the truth, I just wanted to use my vinyl machine and monogram everything I could that day! :)
