As we know, I enjoy writing, like a lot, so it’s only natural that I L O V E to read! I find myself in many genres, and my list of books to purchase is endless on Amazon, thank God for Amazon Prime!
I have rounded up a list of books that I think would make great reads for the beach, but in reality, I mean anywhere- your lunch break, in your favorite reading spot at home before your kiddos get up in the morning, by the pool, in the bath... you get the idea! I used beach, because I also love the beach. The breeze, the water, the coconut smell from my favorite sunscreen, tanning, pretty much everything about it; okay, so the sand is a love hate scenario. Okay? There I said it, I can’t love it all, I guess. Don’t you remember where the sand tends to travel in your bathing suit... yea, that’s right! Enough of that, let’s get on to the topic at hand... B O O K S! Where the Crawdads Sing
First on the list, is one of Reese’s Book Club’s choices from 2018, Where the Crawdads Sing. I haven’t read this one, yet; well, I read the first chapter of this book months ago on “the amazon” (as J’s aunt Dale would call it!), and have found myself wondering what happened to that little girl in the marsh of North Carolina that I was reading about. This book is Delia Owens’ first novel, and it’s described as painfully, beautiful; she describes the nature and beauty of North Carolina’s marsh, with a story of romance and a murder, all through the eyes of an abandoned child, that has grown up with no one. I’ve heard Owens speak on the Hello Sunshine IG, and you can tell she was probably raised on the SouthEast coasts, which makes this Southern beach and book lover excited to get this in her hands. Kind of hoping I’ll be reading this on the beach or even on our primitive beach camping trip in the fall.
Girl, Stop Apologizing!
Girl! Could I really leave this one off? Heck no! Rachel Hollis continuyto breath fresh air into not only my life, but women around the world, on a daily basis! Seriously, she has a blog, her husband and her both have podcasts (highly recommended), they both go live together, she is always dropping motivation on her social media, and she’s even learning Spanish so she can better conversate with even more women! For some reason, while some of the stuff she is talking about in her books are things we have heard before, it’s just different and better coming from her. It’s like it clicks when she says it or writes it. Her style of writing is unique to me, I feel like she’s writing just how she would talk to you if you were sitting across from her or in the gym with her!
31 Prayers for My Daughter (or Husband or Son)
Really. Here’s a spiritual/religious one for you, I can’t not share these, because they have made a great change in my life and my family’s life. I started with ‘Wife After God’, and let me just say, if your struggling in any way as a wife, or in your marriage, sis, you need this book! This book was like the need for Jesus and his Word in my life was flipped on like a light, literally. Jennifer and Aaron Smith have a way with relating marriage to God, that is very humbling, and makes you want to continue to work on your marriage and you! Go buy any of these and absorb the blessings they are laying on you! The writing duo has books from ‘Unveiled Wife’ to ‘31 Prayers for My Daughter, Son, Future Husband/wife, Husband/Wife’, and their latest is a devotion book coming out in June, titled, ‘Marriage After God’!
Daisy Jones and the Six
Another one of Reese’s Book Club Picks! Okay, confession: I promised myself that I would read all of the books on her list for this year (2019), that started off great, then I finished February’s book, The Proposal, in like two days (literally! It was so good!) then a book not on the list came out, and well, it was all down hill from there! I have gotten off track, but I’m still planning to read as many as I can! Back to Daisy! I have read that this book feels like it was real life, but in truth, the author made it all up, from the narrative to the music in the book. The story is set in the 70’s, chronologically detailing an up and coming singer, Daisy Jones and a band called The Six. Read as the author, Taylor Jenkins Reid takes you through the building of a rock legend! I’ve read reviews and comments, that readers want a soundtrack for this book, they have even googled Daisy Jones to see if they can find her music online!!
A Love Letter Life
I literally just ordered this one tonight, along with new headlights for my husband (ugh, if that doesn’t say “a Love Letter Life”!?). The reviews on this one are just... everything. It’s important to me to work on my marriage and myself at all times this year, so I am really excited to start this book! I found gorgeous, Audrey and Jeremy Rolloff through Unveiled Wife, actually. They raced aboutbthis book and the couple in their IG stories one day, one thing lead to another, and here. we. are. (I had the opportunity to go and meet this sweet couple when they’re book tour brought them to Georgia, and I didn’t go, I am kicking myself now! So much for living life spontaneously!) The Roloffs wrote about living your marriage creatively, intentionally, and faithfully. They teach you about to make your love story a great love story, and reach its great potential!
The Wangs vs. The World
This one took a minute for me to get into, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down! I even found myself talking like I imagined the characters would be speaking, you know, like broken English?! (Imagine comedian Anjela Johnson- “long nail short nail. Make you shine like diamond in the sky!”) Jade Chang tells a story of a make up mogul who has lost his entire fortune, including his children’s trusts, trying to save his brand. The story is humbling and intriguing, and you definitely want to keep reading so you can find out how the Wangs fair. Great read!
See Me
Guilty. I don’t mind a good Nicolas Sparks read. He has such a way with love stories; bonding, shocks, thrills, heroism, and happily ever after. Yes, once you have read a couple, you can kind of start to guess the story line, but you really connect with his characters and want more when the book is done. See Me is one of my favorite books by Sparks, maybe even my favorite. Well except the one that turned into a movie starring Channing Tatum, I read the book after the movie was made, but not before I saw it, so I could still use my imagination to put him in the role of John, and see it all unfold in all of his, I mean it’s glory! Want an easy read that can put you at the beach, if you can’t get there, this is one!
