Summer of 100 | Health & Fitness

Summer of 100?

100 what?

Back at the end of June, I set a crazy goal for myself...

To run one hundred miles, yes, you read that right- 1 0 0. One hundred miles by the deadline I gave myself, September 23rd. Why did I choose that day? Well, by calendar, it is the last day of Summer, but, it just sounded like a good time frame.

Gives me right at three months.

Why 100 miles? Why even do this?

I have gotten asked 'why', more often than I can think.

I mean, if you know me, you know that I a have never been a runner, per say. I run to the mexican restaurant, I run late (hello, two small kids), and I run my mouth (working on that).

But, deep down inside, I have always wanted to be a runner. I want to be one of those people that post pictures on their Instagram finishing a 5k, you know the ones!

I think this is more of a way to prove myself, to myself. To tell myself that I am disciplined and that I am capable of doing what I put my mind to.

And.... the extra calories burned is a great bonus.

The Rules:

  1. I can bike, run, walk, crawl, whatever.
I can get these miles in any way I can, they just have to be intentional, meaning, the miles I accumulate walking and chasing after these wild kids, don't count. The miles that count are the ones that I am intentionally putting towards this project.
  2. Document these miles.
I am keeping a "journal", literally on paper and on social media. Keeping track of my times, distances, and what kind of miles I did (bike, treadmill, etc). If I took the girls to the track at the high school, I document that. Okay, so I am a nerd, but, I want to document every step of this, and that means documenting the memories that come with it, the blisters, the new shoes, the 5ks I complete while doing this.
  3. Stick with it.
Unfortunately, I am notorious for starting projects and not finishing them for a while. I have gotten better, or maybe I have learned to stop biting off more than I can chew. I refuse to be that girl with this. I will finish this project on top of my normal workout routines, for me.

I know there will be weeks where I get behind, but my goal is to make up for it on the weeks I can.

I want this to be an experience.

Life is all about experiences.

When I am no longer able to do this type of stuff, I want to say, I once was a runner. I had a dream to become a runner, and I did it. I was once in the best shape of my mommy-life, because I didn't give up. I got up early, I missed out on dinners with my family, I sweated through the horrible heat of the Georgia afternoons, I got blisters from wearing the wrong socks, I did something I have always wanted to do!

Sooo... you wanna join me? :)
