About a year ago, I really began to focus on my time in His word, my time with Him and developing my relationship with God, in addition to bettering myself, mentally and physically!

Along the way, I read a personal development book, and one of the subjects in the book spoke about using the gifts God gave you to minister or to bless others.

I feel like God has given me the gift to 'create'. I really enjoy crafting, painting and drawing, and I have always had a passion for writing.

Not long after I read this book, He laid it on my heart to begin writing.
I began using this blog as an outlet, and I still do.

But, He told me, "There is more".

In the summer of 2019, I wrote my first Bible study, which is one thing I am still so proud of, as I never once imagined I would ever do that.

My first Bible study was a Proverbs 31 Woman, you can find it here!

I am actually writing a more in depth version of this study, that will be published at a later date.

At the end of 2019, He laid it on my heart to share a habit I have made myself do, daily, and build something for others off of it.

As a part of my daily study and time with Him, I have made it a point to write out the scripture I am studying.

Why You Should Write Out Scripture

From what I can tell, this is a popular way to study God's word; I have friends that practice this, and seen other women in church doing so.

It allows His word and the message you are studying to really "soak" up into our minds and hearts.

Not to mention, the time it takes for me to write the verse or verses out, allows me time to slow down and really process what we are studying, which is a very powerful method when it comes to studying and retention, allowing us to understand God's word even better.

It also allows Him another opportunity to speak to us.

I didn't know this, until I began doing some research behind the reason why I and others write out their scripture, but this is actually a commandment!

In Deuteronomy, chapter 17, verses 18 through 20, God gave the future kings of Israel a commandment to write scripture out. It was a way of ensuring that their hearts would stay with the people of the country, and that they wouldn't loose touch with what is right, according to the commandments.

"...he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law...he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully the words of this law..."
portion of Deuteronomy 17:18 & 19

How Do We Scripture Write

This process shouldn't be overly complicated!

My tips:
  • dedicate one journal to this (reminds me of some movie that use to come on Disney channel back in the day- like when I was seven or eight, the main character of the movie wrote quotes, from everyone, in one journal, and I remember thinking how cool that was!)
  • chose your favorite pens to write with
  • highlight and date these verses in your Bible

You can get the most out of this by asking yourself these questions after each verse:
  • What does this mean?
  • How can I apply this to my life?
  • What does this verse mean bout God?

Where Do I Start?

I think knowing where to start is one of the most complicated parts of this habit.

I struggled at first, but now I write at least two or three a day without even realizing it.

That leads me to my next project.

God laid it on my heart to create a scripture writing journal for you!

Below, you will see a download for a FREE printable to the first ten days of my Writing Scripture Journal!

I am so excited for you to get your hands on this; as God has given me these verses to share with you, I know they are what He wants me to share!

As you are downloading, printing and using this FREE ten day journal, I hope that you are sharing it with your friends and family.

Be sure you are following me on Instagram, so that you can tag me in your posts about the scripture journal, and so that you will see me announce when the FULL journal is released!

I love this post because God plays apart in many or our lives. I totally believe that it's because of him that I have the things I do in life and I thank him every day. Writing scriptures out is a great way to study because writing something down helps you process it and remember it.
