That is common to feel that way. We are all balancing work, kids, spouses, their schedules, and maybe even animals, on top of everything else in our lives. It is so easy to get behind, or to feel like you are behind on housework and maintaining your home.
The important thing to remember, is your home is not only an investment, but it is also a safe place for your family. It should feel comfortable, relaxing, and safe. Also, keep in mind that things can be “fixed”, and the repairs or to-do list may not be as extensive, time or money consuming as we might imagine! Let’s talk about some simple things we can do to bring our home back to the condition we want it to be in. Some items on this list (ya’ll know, I love a good list) may be easy, some may be more in-depth, but they may need to be completed in order to maintain or add value to your home- your investment. Clean & Tidy Spaces
It is one thing to clean with disinfectants, but are you tidying up too? You know, eliminating piles of stuff?
Decluttering, maybe throwing away trash or items and paper that is not needed is a great way to start tidying up, and maintaining a relaxing living space in your home. You will feel more comfortable, more relaxed, and happier. I love to have cute baskets to keep the items I use daily to study the Bible and to work from home in, so that they are easily accessible, I can take them to other rooms, and I can put them away under one of our end tables, easily. We also keep extra blankets and throw pillows that we aren’t using at the moment in one of the same baskets. Here are some of our favorites! Insulate Your Home
Some “fixing up” is not so much superficial, but more practical. One practical way to add value to your home is by insulating or re-insulating. There is more to insulation than we think about.
Check your insulation in your crawl space and attics, wild animals are prone to build nests in insulation, and will sometimes even remove it all together. If your home doesn’t have insulation in those spaces, you should really consider adding it! You can also insulate your home by placing draft protectors (like this) under doors or on drafty windows, adding thicker curtains to your window treatments, and close your chimney flue when it is not in use. Taking these steps not only adds value to your home, it can also save you in the long run all throughout the year. All of these types of insulation help keep your house warm during Winter months, and cool during Summer months, therefore taking some of the strain and work off of your air conditioning/heating units, and in turn your energy bill will be better, too! Paint or Touch Up Paint
Another really easy way to freshen up any room or furniture, for that matter. Repainting a room, cabinets, or even touching up baseboards goes a very long distance when it comes to maintaining and improving a room and home.
On top of painting, you will and should be rearranging your wall decor, that in itself will add life to your home! Paint prices vary, and the amount of money you invest in paint should be dictated according to the project at hand; size, technique and so on. Have Your Roof Checked
This is a task we often don’t think too much of, until it is too late. Winters, storms and age can take a toll on roofs and homes. A homeowner that is good with repairs or DIY projects might be able to spot issues, and may be even able to repair them.
You would be looking for leaks, lifted or missing shingles, holes in the roof, bad repair jobs, shrinking and splitting, bald spots and so much more. Roof repairs or replacement are not always easy, and can get very pricey. I mean the roof of your home is pretty important, so it is often wise to have a reputable company (like Souteastern Roofing Company, based out of Georgia) put their eyes, and crews, on it for you! Southeastern Roofing Company offers Atlanta roof inspections, and pride themselves on providing roofing services at low prices for their customers. They also work with you on filing claims with your insurance company if the repair is something that should be covered under your homeowner’s insurance. Do you have projects to update your house this year? If so, what are you doing?
