When creating an enjoyable living space outside I like to add items that are reflective of our family, outdoor furniture, items that can be turned into outdoor furniture or decor. Think tables to sit around seating, or to have planters on, signs to hang on your porch walls, hanging pots, and so much more. *This is a paid post, meaning we have received payment to write and post on this website. Putting a fresh coat of paint on your rocking chairs or table set can help your space feel renewed very easily. I use spray paint on my rocking chairs- spray a couple of coats on them, and they are good as new. You can find the paint I use, HERE! Do any repairs that need to be done, as they come along? This will help keep prices low, and keep you ahead of the game so all repairs don’t have to be done all at one time, that is when our checkbooks start to hurt! A major repair, or maybe even investment (hello, new deck!) that you should keep on top of is decking, or porches! The last thing you want is to be hosting a party and someone’s foot drop through a weak board! Brazilian Wood Depot has a great wood selection, specifically for decking! One of their top of the line options for decking is their Cumaru Decking (pronounced Koo-Ma-Roo). The world-renowned Cumaru Decking is known for its longevity, durability, and hardness. On top of being one of the hardest woods in the world, it is very resistant to insects, mold, rot, fire and even decay. It is also slip-resistant, thanks to its interlocking grain and fine texture! All of these characteristics make Cumaru a great option for your deck repair, especially if you are adding a new deck on. Cumaru is a great wood to use for not only commercial projects, but residential as well! It’s sure to make a great statement piece for your gathering or outdoor party with neighbors and friends. DECORI love adding items to my porch and using them for purposes other than originally intended. Thrifting, hitting yard sales, or even going through your own barn or shed may help you find things to use or repurpose. Example, we found an old handheld toolbox at a yard sale, my dad drilled a couple of holes in the bottom of it to allow for water flow, we spray painted it white, added dirt and flowers to it, and we had a really cute, new flower pot! I love fresh flowers around our living areas outside! Look for old, sturdy kitchen bowls, even pots, look for end tables you could freshen up and turn into a great piece of outdoor furniture! Old window panes can be turned into signs for your porch, old signs can be added, too. OTHERAnother area we use a lot is our fire pit!
My husband and I especially, enjoy sitting around the pit with/without drinks and just unwinding. We built our fire pit ourselves and will be adding some seating to it in the near future, like pictured below. The Cumaru wood, we talked about before, from Brazilian Wood Depot, would be a great choice of wood for this project, as well, as it is durable and is great for benches, along with decking. My sweet husband will be adding me a couple of posts to this area so I can add some wind chimes and hanging pots to the area!
